How MPE auctions work

Every lot on this page is a physical trading card that has already been graded, serial numbered and encapsulated by MPE Grading, then stored in the MPE vault. You are bidding on the real slab — not a picture of one, and not a redemption you have to chase.

Auctions are timed. The highest bid when the clock expires wins, and the card is delivered instantly to the winner's vault. Vault storage is free, so from there you can hold the card, trade it with another collector, list it on the vault marketplace, or ask for the physical slab to be shipped to your door.

No last-second sniping

Traditional online auctions reward whoever has the fastest finger in the closing seconds. MPE auctions don't. Any bid placed inside the final two minutes pushes the clock back, so a lot only closes once bidding has genuinely stopped. If you are the high bidder when it ends, you won it fairly.

What the grade on each slab means

Every card is assessed across the same four categories the major grading companies use — centering, corners, edges and surface — on a 1–10 scale with half points. Centering is measured optically to a thousandth of a millimetre: left, right, top and bottom borders are calculated on both faces, and the worst opposing pair is compared against the tolerance for each grade. A Gem Mint 10 must sit inside a 60/40 split with four undamaged corners, sharp edges and a clean surface.

The full criteria for every grade are published on the MPE grading scale, so you can check the work rather than take a number on trust. Each slab carries a permanent certification number — the MPE- code shown on the lot — and front and back images captured at grading, which you can look up any time on the certificate lookup.

How bidding works

Bids rise in set increments that scale with the current price, so a lot cannot be nudged up by a cent at a time. You can also leave a maximum: the highest you are willing to pay. The system then bids on your behalf only as far as it needs to in order to keep you in front, and stops at your limit — so you win at the lowest price that beats the next bidder, not at your ceiling.

Placing a bid costs nothing and there is no charge for taking part. You pay the hammer price of the lot you win, and nothing on the lots you don't.
